Assess opportunities

Modified on Tue, 8 Sep at 2:59 PM

Every opportunity is assessed based on benefit and achievability. The opportunity score is calculated automatically from these two values. This article explains opportunity statuses, how the assessment works, and how you can track the opportunity score history.

Opportunity status

An opportunity can be in different statuses. Colors indicate the status categories.

StatusMeaning
OpenThe opportunity has been recorded but not yet worked on.
AnalysisThe opportunity is currently being assessed and investigated.
In progressMeasures to pursue the opportunity are being implemented.
PausedWork on the opportunity is temporarily paused.
Review pendingThe opportunity is waiting for a final review or approval.
ReassessmentThe opportunity is being reassessed, for example after changes.
ResolvedThe opportunity has been pursued and resolved.
DiscardedThe opportunity has been classified as not relevant and is no longer pursued.
Important: Once an opportunity is in the status Resolved or Discarded, you can no longer change its assessment.

Opportunity assessment

You assess an opportunity using the sliders for benefit and achievability. Both can be set anywhere between "low" and "high". The opportunity score is calculated automatically from the combination of both values.

Whenever you change the opportunity status, the current assessment is logged and recorded in the opportunity score history.

Opportunity score

The opportunity score is the product of benefit and achievability. The result is normalized to 100.

Normalizing to 100 ensures the opportunity score always falls within the same range, regardless of the assessment scales you've chosen. This keeps all opportunities comparable, so you can sort and filter them by potential. A value between 0 and 100 is also easy to interpret intuitively, similar to a percentage.

The opportunity score helps you classify the potential, for example as "Low opportunity", "Medium opportunity", or "High opportunity".

Example: Benefit 4 × achievability 3 = 12. Normalized to 100, this corresponds to an opportunity score of 48 – a medium level of potential.

Opportunity score history

Use the History button to show or hide the history of the values. The history lets you see how benefit, achievability, and opportunity score have developed over time.

Hovering over the chart shows further details for the selected point in time:

  • Date and time
  • Opportunity score
  • Benefit
  • Achievability
  • The person who set the status
  • The opportunity status at that point in time
